general summary:  the billing manager is expected to perform all job duties with a commitment to providing superior service to attorneys and clients, producing quality work products, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.  above all, the manager must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner, which is consistent with the firm’s visions and values.

essential duties and responsibilities:

  • set priorities and provide operational billing oversight to local bcs billing staff.
  • ensure quality of work and timely completion of assignments.
  • monitor department productivity; develop and implement procedures to optimize effectiveness.
  • oversee the local hiring, coaching, performance evaluation and staff discipline processes.
  • coordinate staff orientation, on boarding and integration into the department.
  • serve as a mentor to department staff and assist in staff development.
  • ensure compliance with billing and collection policies, including write-down/off process and approvals of same.
  • oversee application of alternative billing arrangements and annual review and approval of same.
  • work with office billing and collection partners, office financial personnel and client services lawyers to ensure timely billing and collections.
  •  

  • produce monthly and ad hoc reports to measure billing/collection performance.
  • coordinate year-end billing and collection efforts.

  • educational/job experience requirements:

  • bachelor degree.
  • minimum of five years supervisory experience.
  • minimum of five years experience working in professional services billing, law firm experience preferred.
