job summary

this position is within the financial accounting function of tjx europe, part of the tjx companies inc., which is listed on the nyse. tjx europe currently comprises more than 700 retail stores across the uk, ireland, germany, poland, austria and the netherlands under the branding tk maxx and homesense as well in the uk.

tjx europe is a fast-growing business within the european retail sector with turnover of more than gbp4b (fy20).

this position is part of the financial accounting function responsible for providing accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reporting to the us head office in addition to monthly management accounting to the european business.

key responsibilities

perform key month end close procedures;

own the monthly other income reporting processes within the financial accounting team liaising with other tjx europe teams as appropriate to ensure that reporting is completed on a timely basis;

own the monthly it p&l reporting processes within the financial accounting team liaising with the tjx europe and corporate it finance teams as appropriate to ensure that costs are controlled and reporting is completed on a timely basis;

responsible for the completion of intercompany balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring that all intercompany balances are reconciled and reviewed in a timely manner with any risks or opportunities clearly identified & communicated;

ownership of the process to complete local gaap financial statements for legal entities under the responsibility of the intercompany team;

actively participate in the implementation of process improvements, new reporting and control requirements as necessary;

other ad hoc tasks deemed as reasonable and appropriate by management.

key skills, knowledge & experience

qualified accountant with proven post qualification experience in a multi-site environment;

a thorough understanding of closing routines/ ability to ensure integrity of the general ledger in all areas of responsibility;

an understanding of intercompany accounting in compliance with local and us gaap;

flexibility in approach and a willingness to go beyond the defined role;

experience of financial reporting in both us gaap and local statutory reporting;

ability to critically evaluate processes and oversee the execution of recommendations for improvement;

ability to develop relationships at all levels of the business;

ability to business partner and explain financials to non-financial personnel;

developed analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
