what is the science and engineering graduate scheme?

our 15-month programme offers the chance to experience placements across our nuclear generation and nuclear new build sites. these opportunities could include working on:

hinkley point c, the largest construction project in europe;

sizewell c, our second nuclear new build project and will further support the growth of the future low carbon economy and reduce the need for imported generation;

an existing operating power station, getting the chance to experience different areas within this like technical and safety, operations and engineering.

on this programme you'll learn from our experts, gain valuable experience, build your confidence and have the support of an assignment manager, mentor and buddy throughout the programme.

previous graduates have gone on to become; technical managers, senior leaders and heads of function.

training, development and support for you:

we're passionate about your development and we offer each graduate a tailored training plan, relevant to your discipline, to develop your skills, build your confidence, knowledge and experience.

you'll contribute to different projects throughout the programme and examples of work our recent graduates have completed includes:

preparing a fire strategy for buildings at our power stations

working in the fuel route, outage and investment delivery team

understanding of the preparations for operating hpc when complete

working on site at a power station, supporting graphite inspections

our science and engineering programme also includes protected training time for courses covering epr (european pressurised reactor) systems, communications and health & safety.

our scheme is accredited with a number of professional institutions and we'll support you to gain chartership with the relevant professional body:

institute of materials, minerals and mining (iom3)

institute of mathematics and its applications (ima)

institute of physics (iop)

the institution of chemical engineers (icheme)

the institution of civil engineers (ice)

institute for environmental management & assessment (iema)

institution of engineering and technology (iet)

institution of mechanical engineers (imeche)

where you'll work:

locations on scheme could include: bristol, hpc site (bridgwater), barnwood (gloucester), london (sizewell c project), or on stations in heysham, hartlepool, torness, hunterston, hinkley point b (bridgwater), aztec west or sizewell b (suffolk).

to get the most from our training during the programme you'll be moving around our sites to experience our diverse business. we'll be on hand with practical and financial support when you relocate. we offer a great work/life balance to support people's personal lives whilst giving them the opportunity to network and learn.

what you'll need to apply:

2:2 bachelor's degree or a 2:2 postgraduate degree (obtained or expected) in any stem subject, with specific focus on any of the following disciplines: maths, chemistry, mechanical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, instrumentation & control, physics, astrophysics, health physics, physical sciences, human factors, psychology and project management

a genuine interest in nuclear energy, the power generation industry and technology

excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

keen to solve technical problems

works well to deadlines in a time critical environment

able to work well as part of a team and shows collaborative behaviours
