our client currently have an exciting opportunity for a health and safety manager to join their team in lowestoft.

this role will report directly to the operations manager and will drive and lead the implementation of the h&s strategy focusing safety behaviours and attitudes at all levels throughout the business.

primary responsibilities will include:

responsible for developing the h&s strategy for the site including plans to shift the culture towards interdependence and optimisation of behavioural safety.ensure best practice is implemented across the site and coordinate activities to ensure any good ideas are shared within the region.provide the site with technical advice and ensure that the site management team is kept up to date with issues and developments in health and safety that may affect site objectives, targets and actions plans.liaise with all departments to discuss h&s problems, responsible for determining action required to ensure h&s standards are achieved, and resolving problems.coaching and training employees on key h&s issues.work with the site operations and wider management teams to ensure that the company's obligations in respect of risk assessment, ssow, control and monitoring of hazardous substances, workplace, work equipment, manual-handling operations, personal protective equipment and display screen equipment are being strictly adhered to. this includes assisting in the writing and management of risk assessments and ssow’s.investigate accidents and other serious incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented. this includes responsibility for all incident documentation and communication with other sites and group as appropriate.represent the site at regular group health & safety meetings and be the main point of contact with external health & safety authorities.ensure that the site remains legally compliant in all aspects of h&s and provide the general manager with the confidence that controls are effective in maintaining that compliance.

key skills, personal characteristics and qualifications

must be holder of a nebosh general certificate or equivalent.good working knowledge of health & safety policies/procedures/ regulations – ideally in a manufacturing environment.demonstrable experience of implementing culture and/or behavioural change in a complex organisation.ability to influence key stakeholders to build effective relationships with internal customers and other external contacts.good organisational skills with an ability to manage own workload and priorities.excellent communication skills – verbal and written including one to one and group meetings and presentations.ability to problem solve through to root cause.high degree of personal resilience.good general it skills including outlook, word, excel and other in-house system.
