as a retail assistant manager you will support your manager in both the daily operations of the store, and the store’s long-term success. you will promote the highest standards of customer service and product knowledge to serve your local running and fitness community.

in addition, you will work with company processes and procedures to maintain a productive stockholding, staffing and promotions calendar.

your typical day as an assistant retail manager will include:

• creating a welcoming environment for customers and visitors

• demonstrating and promoting excellent customer service, acting as a role model for sales associates

• dealing with customer enquiries and customer complaints

• process all customer transactions using out point of sale software

• helping to maintain the cleanliness of shop floor and storeroom areas and, where necessary, advise the manager of any relevant issues and concerns

• operating the epos system to process transactions and manage stock levels

• accurately reporting the end of day & branch finance summary as directed by the store manager

• accurately bank cash takings each week in the absence of the store manager

• using video gait analysis to help advise and recommend footwear to customers

• answering head office (ho) emails and requests, and those of another stores & the warehouse, via store email

• ensuring that customer special orders are dealt with as soon as possible

your responsibilities are:

• processing timesheets and keep a record of staff holidays and time in lieu in the absence of the store manager

• ensuring that the store, stockroom and staff room are clean and compliant with health and

safety (h&s) policy and that all team members are following these policies and procedures

• minimising the store’s costs through sensible use of petty cash and the monitoring of cost of utilities

• protecting the store against theft through vigilance and common-sense procedures (e.g., do not leave the till open and unattended)

• supporting the manager/assistant manager in the delivery of training on products, new shop procedures and health and safety advice with the help of head office resources and suppliers

• supervising & supporting staff with epos, gait analysis, stock movement, merchandising &

product training at the direction of your manager

• acting as the point of contact between head office and store in the absence of the manager

• being a main keyholder for the store, and the main point of contact if the alarm is triggered at the direction of your manager

• supporting your manager in supervising and monitoring the use of the store computer

• if necessary, support your store manager in the first stages of any disciplinary procedures against their staff

• supporting your manager is the organisation and leading of the weekly social run group

as an assistant retail manager, you are responsible for the maintenance of stock, this includes:

• maintaining logical and orderly stock rooms and ensuring that all team members maintain these standards

• supervising & accurately report on the receiving & transferring of stock from supplier, warehouse & other stores

• helping to maintain logical and orderly storerooms and appropriate stock levels within all

departments

• advising the manager of any items of stock that are running low or that customers are requesting

• completing ordering of stock as the direction of your manager

• helping to ensure that no nutrition on display is out of date and rotate product to maximise turnover

• ensuring all special customer orders are dealt with as soon as possible at the direction of your manager

• ensuring that faulty stock is dealt with correctly and efficiently

assistant retail managers will build and develop their knowledge together with up and running, this will include:

• developing and maintaining a full working knowledge of all aspects of the point-of-sale system you are authorised to use

• maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of technical specifications of the product, shoe fitting, and running & fitness theory

• developing and demonstrating an excellent working knowledge of the gait analysis

• keeping current knowledge of technical developments in clothing, footwear, equipment and training

as an assistant retail manager you will be required to assist with the marketing of the store, this will include:

• act as the point of contact between the marketing department and the store at the direction of your manager

• supporting the promotion of the store and u&r through involvement with in-store and external promotions

• ensuring the store is merchandised effectively, including window displays

• supporting your manager in head office promotions & national campaigns, including seasonal sales & product launches

• supporting the development of in-store resources for runners and gym users e.g. lists of races, clubs, events and training advice

• supporting the organisation and the distribution of regular electronic mail outs to customers, club members and gym users etc. at regular intervals with support of head office

• leading the organisation of sales with your manager, working to ensure that out of season stock is moved
