purchasing associate

  • procure raw materials and components utilizing min/max inventory levels, ensuring suppliers have access to the latest revision specifications.
  • purchase shop supplies as needed.
  • review purchase requisitions, prepare purchase orders, and complete data entry of purchase orders.
  • submit purchase orders to vendors.
  • confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, lead times and delivery schedules.
  • contact vendors to determine order status and, when necessary, to communicate discrepancies with quantity and quality.
  • interface daily with key personnel to stay informed of component status and any capacity issues.
  • develop new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.
  • evaluate and negotiate with vendors; review bid proposals and contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • assist in the development and maintenance of the inventory tracking system – vendor managed inventory (vmi) program.
  • maintain positive supplier relationships.
  • weekly review of mrp and expedite report. daily review mro needs.
  • interface with other departments and vendors to resolve purchasing issues and discrepancies.
  • complete shipping request documents and communicate effectively with shipping department.
  • support and back-up for the shipping & receiving function for pushing, pulling and lifting of boxes is a part of this job and tremendously desired.
  • all other reasonable duties, as assigned.
  • education & experience

  • 4-year degree required (preferably in majors such as business management or supply chain management)
  • 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training in logistics, purchasing, and supply chain management
  • previous experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment
  • previous purchasing and accounts management experience including negotiation
  • lean manufacturing experience: jit, kanban and pull systems is highly desirable
  • experience with problem analysis and resolution
  • demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
  • ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • experience with networked pc based computer system (ms office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, email, mrp systems, and accounting software)
  • skills & other requirements

  • competent in erp/mrp systems – experience with proman highly desirable
  • ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • high skill level with excel
  • high level of understanding of export compliance rules and regulations
  • high level of understanding of the shipping and receiving function (including international)
  • ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees (all levels)
  • ability to handle multiple priorities involving external and internal priorities
  • ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross cultural, global team environment
  • handle special assignments promptly and professionally
  • set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and competency
