york (office/home hybrid working) permanent position cowi is a pacesetter in sustainability as we move away from all fossil fuel projects. our vision is together, we shape a sustainable and livable world . join us on the journey and be part of making a positive difference to communities for generations to come. join us in designing the future! extend your potential with a global team of experts we are looking for a principal geotechnical engineer to join our team in york, giving you the opportunity to co-create on some of the most prestigious infrastructure programmes in the uk. on a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for: progressing projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and assurance processes preparing and checking engineering designs, calculations, and coordinate the production of design documents for issue to the client supervising and co-ordinating projects from feasibility to detailed design, including site supervision where required overseeing development of conceptual designs development of project controls and monitoring of progress against programmes ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current design standards, codes of practice and best practice undertaking a wide range of geotechnical design work, fully compliant with eurocode preparing and checking technical documents, reports and contract documents and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders, including cost estimates overseeing coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers maximising business development opportunities where possible and preparation of bids and tenders when required project administration reporting to line management including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets development and technical assurance of design including civil 3d models and reports supervising team members including engineers, senior engineers, senior technicians and assistant and graduate engineers, assisting in their progression to chartered status. your skills. our team. together, we design the future to do well in this position, we believe that you'll be eager to collaborate with others while keeping our clients engaged. you'll also pursue new insights and constantly explore new ways to improve, while respecting our clients, your colleagues, the local community, and the planet we live on. furthermore, you'll have: achieved chartership status with cgeol or ceng (or equivalent) an msc in either engineering geology or civil engineering (with significant geotechnical ability and experience) significant experience in the rail or tunnelling and infrastructure sectors experience working in a railway design and build environment. evidence of undertaking previous cre(discipline) roles under the engineering management for project standard (nr/l2/rse/02009). evidence of participating in idcs or joint idc/idrs as a discipline specialist experience both on site and in the design office familiarity with eurocodes sound understanding of cdm regulations, specifically the designer's requirements broad capability in geotechnical design earthworks, retaining structures, foundations sound understanding of the requirements regarding the risk assessment process the ability to manage your own time as well as other engineers and technicians;
