pre-school manager

due to retirement, we are looking to recruit a eyfs qualified manager for our wonderful pre-school. we are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced person with an in-depth knowledge of the early years foundation stage to lead our motivated and dedicated team with vision for a new season of the pre-school. the successful candidate will be committed to developing both the children and staff, showing compassion and leadership.

our setting provides children with varied indoor and outdoor learning opportunities including year-round weekly forest school sessions in a local woodland.

we are a friendly, not for profit charity-run community pre-school and we work holistically to support and provide the best outcomes for all children and families. within the current pre-school staff seven different languages are spoken. there is a close partnership with christ church primary school and christ church clifton where we are based with fantastic newly developed premises.

we are open from 9am to 3pm monday to friday, term time only. this job will be working with children aged 2-5 years. 25-35 hours p/w, ideally across 5 days

salary; £ 25-28k (fte), dependent on experience.

job description – early years manager

job purpose: to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the setting. to develop and maintain a safe and stimulating environment and ensure a high-quality setting.

responsible to: management committee – christ church children and families charity trustees.

responsible for: deputy, early years workers and volunteers.

job details: £25-28k per annum (fte) depending on experience hours: 25-35 hours per week

mon – fri term-time only

main duties and responsibilities:

to have overall responsibility for the day to day running of the setting.

to develop a high-quality child-centred setting that is in line with the eyfs and other legal requirements.

children and families:

to ensure high quality early education and care, enabling all children to reach their full potential.

to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of children’s learning and development.

to ensure that the welfare of the children remains paramount, and children are protected from risk of harm.

to develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers and work in partnership with them.

to encourage and support parental/ carer involvement in the running of the nursery e.g. through questionnaires, parent volunteers.

to ensure all parents/ carers are aware of the setting’s policies and procedures.

to lead, support and develop an environment which is inclusive for all and recognises and encourages diversity.

to encourage and lead an ongoing commitment to regular forest school as part of the curriculum

staff:

to provide professional support and guidance to all staff and volunteers.

to lead, develop and encourage good team working.

to manage support and supervision sessions and provide annual appraisals for staff and volunteers.

to ensure that staff and own training and development needs are identified and met.

to be responsible for the staff rota and tracking staff leave/sickness/absence.

to be responsible for staff recruitment in conjunction with the management committee.

to be responsible for induction, support and monitoring of new staff during probationary periods.

to ensure all staff are aware of the setting’s policies and procedures.

finance and administration:

to monitor the financial situation of the setting with support from the management committee.

to work within an agreed budget.

to develop and maintain administrative systems in line with statutory requirements. eg attendance registers; petty cash; fee taking; registration and booking forms.

to ensure all invoicing is accurate and up to date and late payments are chased.

to prepare and distribute publicity materials to advertise the setting.

general:

to develop and implement policies and procedures in conjunction with the management committee and ensure these are adhered to.

to be responsible for maintaining health and safety procedures alongside other legal requirements.

work towards quality assurance programmes e.g. bristol standard.

to keep abreast of new childcare developments and legislation and action relevant ideas within the setting.

to maintain positive working relationships with relevant external professionals and to work in partnership with other agencies, including a mutually beneficial relationship with christ church clifton staff and management.

to provide feedback to the management committee on key issues or concerns.

to represent the setting professionally at all times, maintaining the setting’s integrity and being open to giving and receiving feedback.

to undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the management committee.

minimum of a recognised and relevant level 3 qualification

early years degree or eyps.

paediatric first aid certificate.

experience

2 years relevant experience of working with children aged under 5.

experience of working within the voluntary sector.

experience of supervising staff.

experience of securing funding.

experience of developing and using administrative systems

budgeting & handling cash.

experience of managing and organising own workload

ict skills.

experience of involvement in forest school activities

forest school leader qualification

knowledge & abilities

knowledge of ofsted, eyfs and other legal requirements.

knowledge of special educational needs and code of practice.

proficient understanding and use of english

driving license

knowledge of required policies and procedures and ability to develop and implement them.

ability to work as a team member and lead, supervise and motivate others.

ability to plan, provide and evaluate a wide range of play and learning opportunities.

ability to be a reflective practitioner in order to develop your own and your team’s practice.

ability to communicate effectively with all children, staff and families.

ability to support and develop an environment which is inclusive for all and encourages diversity.
