westlakes recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced quantity surveyor to be engaged on a contract basis in plymouth. role purpose: experienced qs who has a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures; minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality; they will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified. what you'll be doing as a senior quantity surveyor you will cover: governance: have a good knowledge of and adheres to the companys gmces, bms and other governance. analytical thinking & decision making: order information and systematically checks data; maximise digital opportunities. cost engineering: prepare activity schedules, resource schedules & analyses tender documents. estimating: critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties. planning: review complex contract programmes such as time-location; assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes. project management: monitor subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately; analyse the commercial progress and report to senior project staff; manage commercial aspects with customer and stakeholders for their area of responsibility. procurement: undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes; prepare procurement programme and helps develop the strategy. commercial management: analyse rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required; undertake customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility; prepare, submits and negotiates claims when required; prepare internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation. development, recruitment and retention: maintain own personal development plan; manage hr/people aspects for direct and indirect reports (pdrs etc); actively supports the development of others incl professional mentoring; produce plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations; support recruitment of lower grades. who we're looking for personal qualities and experience: the following qualifications are essential: bsc or msc in quantity surveying or experience equivalent; membership of rics, ices or ciob (or working towards); the following qualities/experience are desirable: communication; teamwork / role model; leadership; achievement focus (achieving results); business and customer awareness; applies organisational aims & objectives; identifies with the customer needs; recognises opportunities & threats. for more information on this role or to register your interest for future job updates, please get in touch! why we re different: westlakes recruit are a people solutions business that understands the complexities of nuclear and the importance of our clients mission critical objectives. smarter, faster, more agile we have a laser focus on nuclear, with deep sectoral knowledge. we develop nuclear talent pools before you know you need them! we do nuclear. we only do nuclear. we do all of nuclear. powering a diverse nuclear future: as an equal opportunities business, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and abilities
