we have a great opportunity to join the education team at hmp preston as a vocational technician (learning support practitioner) on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

this is a specialist support role working across two vocational training workshops (painting & decorating and industrial cleaning), supporting learners and also covering the trainers when they are on leave. the post is ideally suited to a candidate with a trade background.

what the role entails

the purpose of this role is to provide support to men across two vocational training workshops - one painting and decorating, the other industrial cleaning. you will be required to work with the trainer in each area to assist men who require support to enable them to achieve their goals. additionally, you will be required to cover trainer absences (after necessary training). additional payment (an uplift) will be made for this element of the role.

in order to be successful in the role of vocational technician (learning support practitioner) you will need:

to have an understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience

to have a track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour

have a vocational background

effective communication & inter-personal skills

good it skills

maths and english at level 2
