about this client/child:

dermot is a young man (27) who is actively involved in creating installations, films and writing for himself and arts organisations. he writes screen plays and poetry. outside of work dermot visits the theatre and cinema regularly and enjoys playing his xbox, watching sports, and going to music concerts and festivals. he likes training with the local athletics club for a run around the track in his walker, having daily hydrotherapy and playing boccia. dermot uses an aac eye gaze to communicate and is a wheelchair user. he requires full assistance with personal care and feeding; and needs support to co-ordinate and arrange many aspects of his work and social life.

overview of role:

dermot requires one more support worker to join the team who enable him to live life to the full. someone who is willing to support him through all aspects of daily living, including full personal care, preparing meals, feeding him, and all aspects of laundry, and housekeeping. dermot requires a hoist, so support workers need to be confident in assisted transfers and be physically fit to push a manual wheelchair when required. dermot spends a lot of time out at the cinema, theatre, and gigs, it would benefit him if his support worker had some of the same interests such as media, arts, and sports. someone who is confident assisting in hydrotherapy is essential as dermot does this most days in his own pool at home. dermot is out and about a lot, so all support staff would ideally hold a full driver’s licence but his local bus network is accessible for local expeditions. this position is permanent, after a 6-month probationary period, and offers up to 10 x 24-hour shifts per month. the shifts start and end time is variable, and it is generally 3 days on and 6 days off rota but this can be flexible for the right candidate. wage is £285.00 gross per day.

who this job would suit:

this job will suit a motivated, proactive support worker with plenty of common sense who has strong experience supporting a client with a disability and understands the importance of promoting independence. someone who is positively active in mind and body and interested in sports, the arts or media would be an advantage.

what’s great about this job:

whilst on shift you will have your own bedroom with a shared bathroom. this job offers great rota system so that you can have the benefits of plenty of time off, as well as loads of interesting and fun outings when on duty.
