hours: working an average of 48 hours per week working on a 2 on 4 off rolling cycle. all sleeps are inclusive of the 48 hours per week and paid at your usual hourly rate.

location: cheadle (st10)

salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum (dependant on experience and qualifications).

voluntary overtime: payments of 1.5 hours for completed voluntary overtime on weekends and bank holidays.

halliwell homes is clinically informed practice encompassing educational, clinical and residential care services. our objective is to enhance the psychological wellbeing of children within the care system through our restorative parenting recovery programme.

the role:

a senior therapeutic parent will deliver halliwell’s restorative parenting® recovery programme offering sensitive and caring re-parenting to children aged between 4 and 12 (at the time of placement) who have experienced trauma in their lives. caring for children who can at times display complex and challenging behaviours the post holder will offer therapeutic parenting techniques to meet the children’s’ social, emotional, cultural and educational needs.

the post holder will also assist in the day to day running of the home including domestic duties and paperwork / record keeping working closely with onsite deputy lead therapeutic parents, clinical and education teams to provide tailored psychological recovery programmes for each child. a therapeutic, safe, healthy and homely environment will need to be in place at all times to meet ofsted’s quality standards.

as a senior therapeutic parent you will complete duties such as:

to work very closely with the deputy therapeutic parents and management to ensure the running of the home is to a high standard meeting ofsted quality standards.

to contribute to the development of the child through the provision of a therapeutic home environment and being a committed and consistent adult role model.

to be assigned as a key worker or co-key worker to a halliwell child and to provide a high standard level of care throughout.

to provide warmth and care for our children providing personal care needs, cooking, cleaning, washing, shopping and budgeting pocket monies or by promoting our children to carry out such tasks themselves, where appropriate.

to ensure pocket money / petty cash receipts are retained for financial auditing records.

to support the child with onsite or mainstream education attendance completing homework and other school related activities.

to follow the children’s care plans and risk assessments and carry out job role in accordance with halliwell’s childcare policies and procedures at all times.

to understand and adhere to all policies and procedure within halliwell homes and the homes standard operating procedures.

to complete and comply with all risk assessments in place and update, where required.

to ensure you as a senior therapeutic parent complete the log book throughout your shift. to ensure that all staff on shift, complete daily c sheets and records in the evening.

to complete children’s file audits on a monthly basis.

to ensure that you and the team meet health and safety requirements and they are updated and maintained to standards as required by ofsted.

to take in to consideration when planning your shift, activities, health appointments, meetings, their hygiene routine times to ensure that all children’s needs are met throughout.

to be committed to being on call and being available during your on call period for anyone who needs further advice/support.

to ensure that the staff are supervising the children at all times and have the confidence to address any staffing/practice issues raised whilst on your shift.

to report any safeguarding concerns to halliwell’s designated lead safeguarding officer and follow the correct procedures.

to ensure all accidents (including children, employees and third parties) are recorded immediately using the correct forms and notification procedures.

to administer medication to children who require it and ensure that you abide by the medication policies and procedures.

to refer to risk assessments and individual child plans and understand the content of these including in relation to away from home activities, trips and visits.

to give staff handovers before commencing or leaving a shift engaging in a thorough handover to ensure staff can take over a shift safely. to also complete a debrief every evening as part of your reflective practice, establishing if there was any issues/ positives from the shift.

to complete all your evening checks before retiring to sleeping room.

to apply positive behaviour management / de-escalation strategies to control the behaviour of the children and participate in physical interventions only as a last resort, where required.

the successful candidate will have the following qualifications/requirements:

must have valid right to work in the uk

must be aged 18 and above

must hold uk manual drivers licence

must hold level 3 diploma in residential childcare or equivalent.

must have worked in residential childcare setting for a minimum of two years.

previous experience in shift leading in children’s residential care settings (6 months minimum).

possess the knowledge and skills in the previous role or work to support young people with challenging behaviour, psychological trauma and health needs.

a willingness to undertake studying to a minimum of a level 5 qualification (halliwell would support study up to postgraduate level).

ideally, a graduate with a relevant degree (e.g. psychology/educational psychology), however not essential.

possess gcse maths and english c or above or equivalent.

experience working with challenging behaviours/individuals ideally in a residential setting
