the opportunity:

an opportunity exists for an experienced, ambitious and delivery-focused engineering manager to join the spear product line design team. the successful candidate will join the programme at a critical point in the development lifecycle and coordinate the on-time, on-cost, on-quality delivery of a range of missile and launcher equipments.

you role will involve:line managing a delegated budget and a team of approximately x7 engineering work package managers, including delegating budgets and work packagesworking with a hugely broad range of internal and external supplier, supported by various other mbda (uk) functions (procurement, commercial, business & performance, etc.)reviewing supplier project plans, ensuring realism in their ability to deliver on their commitments to mbda (uk)partner a breadth of internal customers including manufacturing, technical excellence, safety, systems, mechanical / electronic engineeringensure all of the mechanical equipments follow the mbda (uk) lifecycle process and bms requirementsreporting progress to the wider project, including the chief design engineer /chief engineerpartner business and performance & project control colleagues to ensure programmatic elements are accurately reportedidentifying and raising issues in a timely manner, working proactively for quick resolutions with minimal impactworking with internal functions to manage your teams' mix of numbers, skills and experience to deliver the assigned work packages

this is a highly visible role within the spear programme, which will require a confident range of technical, programme and people leadership skills. as such, it would offer an ideal development path for someone wanting to work towards a chief design engineer position in their future career.

you will be co-located within the project team at stevenage and will report daily to the spear chief design engineer. functional support will be provided by head of mechanical missile architecture.

what we're looking for from you:degree qualified or equivalent education or experience in an engineering or scientific subject area, with significant relevant working experience, ideally across some or all of the following areas: mechanical / electrical engineering, energetics, thermal, stress, safety, environmental, reliability, production, project managementproven leadership skills and a willingness to be held responsible for objective deliverygood written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills supported by office it software skillswell-developed partner management skills, capable of forging and maintaining relationships and influencing at all levelsdelivery-focused, passionate about achieving successexperience of delivering subcontracted subsystemsapplication of appropriate personal behaviours including self-motivation, initiative, leadership, adaptability, planning and organisationcapability to travel in the uk/europe/us/etc. on a regular basis when requiredwhat to expect:
