what will you do?

reporting to the general manager, the hsqe manager will be responsible for the management of the health, safety, quality and environmental (hsqe) systems across the site and with the support of the leadership team determine, drive and lead the implementation of the hsqe strategy ensuring and exceeding compliance with both legal and company standards. the role sits within the senior management team and therefore plays an integral role for the business.

main duties:

undertake business analysis and advise the local management on business mix, cost structure and capital base. initiate and manage projects to improve business control and profitability, prioritising such projects based on business impact.ensuring legal compliance is maintained to a high standard for hsqe, keeping up to date with any changes in legislation.carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced and develop safe systems of work throughout the plant.monitor the effectiveness of the group h&s policy, recommending changes and additions where necessary, and the provision of advice to employees.ensure all safety records are maintained and are accurate.assist departmental/line managers in the investigation of accidents/ incidents at sites where they have responsibility or as directed by the uk hse manager.manage hsqe compliance, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.liaise with external contractors, assessment bodies and local authorities on hsqe compliance.maintain and implement new & existing site accreditations which includes iso14001, iso9001.working with the plant/site management team to ensure hsqe requirements are consistent with uk/corporate standards, policies and uk legislation.maintain and document in collaboration with hr relevant information as required in relation to hsqe in line with gdpr regulations.work closely with the management team and colleagues to prioritise and manage actions required as a result of risk assessments, hazards and incidents that have been reported and recorded.working with the management team to prioritise and manage customer expectations and address actions in relation to customer complaints, non-conformances, internal and external audits.provide guidance on the installation of new or used work equipment including ensuring plant handover checklists are completed following installation.outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.manage the effective communication and co-ordination of hsqe matters/ projects/audits and reports.coordinate both quality and hse monthly and annual meetings, ensuring there is an agenda and minutes are taken.ensure adequate induction training and information with regards to hsqe is provided to all new starters.work with the uk quality and h&s teams across various locations. to attend regular meetings, and develop best practice and uk standardisation.ensure that contractors and suppliers of key services are managed and approved as required by group and the quality management system.ensure the provision of accident/ incident / minor accident and near miss statistics on a weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual basis as directed.ensure that the company's obligations in respect of risk assessment, ssow, control and monitoring of hazardous substances, workplace, work equipment, manual-handling operations, personal protective equipment and display screen equipment are being strictly adhered to.establish procedures to be followed in case of emergency evacuation i.e. fire, gas or other emergency at the plant. liaise with enforcing authorities and any appointed consultants.carry out periodic safety inspections and safety audits to identify unsafe plant, working conditions and practices. to report to the management team on the findings of such inspections and make recommendations for remedying any defects found.present monthly toolbox talks and any other group/ site information.manage hsqe budget.

skills, knowledge and experience:

hold nebosh certificate or be prepared to undertake this training in the first year of taking up posthave good communication or presentation skillsability to coach & train othersability to manage conflictexperienced in risk assessment completionassist in the development effective policies and proceduresable to promote company hsqe initiatives and a positive cultureable to liaise with safety representatives and enforcement authorities as required
