about this client/child:

laura 35, is a cambridge graduate; she is doing a law conversion course to become a barrister. she has a busy work and social life; she is charity trustee, does lots of volunteering, she is involved in several community groups, has an active friendship network, takes part in disability sporting activities, and likes to garden. laura has a complex physical disability, uses a power wheelchair, and needs assistance with her daily life.

overview of role:

laura doesn’t have a routine life, nor does she want one! you will be supporting laura to live the life she chooses. your role will involve direct work with laura, such as personal care and domestic tasks such as cooking, maintaining the home and equipment, and other support necessary to make laura's life run as smoothly as possible. you will be part of a team on a rolling rota that provides 24-hour support. rotas cover 28-days which consists of 7 working days, 7 on call days and 14 days off. working days cover 24 hours and include a usually sleeping night however if needed you will be required to assist. if you are required to work on on-call days, you will be paid a daily overtime rate. you do not need to stay at clients house when on call, only if you are required to work. please note: only one commute a fortnight will usually be required, therefore the client is keen to see applications from potential candidates within a 4 hour travel time from cambridge.

who this job would suit:

this is a lovely role for someone who is flexible and adaptable; laura’s life is busy and spontaneous. care experience is not required, and all training will be provided. you will need to be able to cycle and preferably swim. laura likes to cycle around cambridge and you will accompany her. a driving license is desirable, but not essential. you will be self-aware, reliable, positive, and thoughtful candidate. you must have excellent communication skills, be a team player and be happy to take direction. you’ll have good organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative. you will be able to judge when to step in and when to give laura her privacy. good cooking skills would be great bonus!
