what to expect:

you will be working primarily in our student pub, the taf kitchen. you prepare food for the pub and also orders from around the building from our app ordering service. you will also support our internal catering provision with hot and cold buffets.

it is a unique chef position to have traditional busy periods off i.e. christmas, easter and summer through trading through term only

we have several different venues within the building and can accommodate up to 2150 for a club night, 400 for a banquet, 1500 for a live music event, and up to 4000 for all venue events.

the position of the chef includes:

key responsibilities:

we are looking for a chef to work within the venues team. the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate practical experience in the catering industry, be a team player and have the ability to deliver high quality and consistency whilst working under pressure.

you will be expected to prepare, cook and serve food within different catering operations. for example, one morning you could be based in the food court kitchen preparing panini’s, burgers, food for our noodle station and salad bar, the next day you could be in the pub working in a fast paced kitchen environment.

completing daily paperwork to adhere to the company’s food safety policy

ensure high levels of food and personal hygiene are adhered to at all times

essential criteria:

catering experience within high volume catering businesses

ability to work in a pressurised environment

experience in producing freshly prepared meals

food safety level 2

desirable criteria:

cieh level 3 food safety

first aid at work

to be able to communicate through the medium of welsh

the successful candidate should reside within reasonable commuting distance and would be able to attend the union’s premises at short notice.
