our client is looking for a duty manager to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of their sports complex.

founded in 1850, our celebrated client is a leading uk co-educational boarding and day school for 13 to 18 year olds situated in the berkshire countryside within an hour of london.

they currently have over 800 students and boast impressive sports facilities, including a double sized sports hall, a 25 metre indoor pool, strength and conditioning suite, two floodlit astro turf hockey pitches, a superb 9-hole golf course and indoor performance centre, 10 football pitches and one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the south of england.

about the role:

they are looking for two highly motivated duty managers to lead their team of recreation assistants and lifeguards to achieve consistently high standards of customer service and safety in the sports complex and tennis centre. duty managers are expected to be more than just ‘shift leaders’, as they also support the operations manager in developing and implementing procedures for quality and health and safety, plus the training and monitoring of staff. in addition, each duty manager takes on the responsibility for specific areas of management and administration.

about you:

candidates must be able to demonstrate:

drive, determination and a positive commitment to delivering high standards at all times.
initiative, maturity and professionalism
an ability to remain calm under pressure to deal with emergency situations or resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
effective management and communication skills, plus their detailed understanding of the day-to-day operations of a sports and leisure facility (dryside and wetside).

experience:

the post holder will have specific responsibility for and is expected to have some experience of:

shift management
customer service
health and safety
lifeguarding
line management and training.

qualifications:

qualifications in leisure management/operations (e.g. pool plant operators) plus health and safety (e.g. nplq and first aid at work) would be expected but can be obtained in the probationary period.

working hours:

you will form part of the duty shift rota, which covers the entirety of the opening hours of the complex, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
