adecco search is recruiting qualified candidates for a direct hire manufacturing automation and controls engineer job near portland, me for our client, a manufacturer if quality products. this is a newly created position due to continued growth and long-term contracts. the automation engineer is responsible for supporting the current production systems and future improvements in safety, quality, cost, and cycle time. in this position, the automation engineer will lead automation and control system integration from design of new systems to supporting existing production infrastructure, automation projects, direct the integration of technical activities to implement process improvements, equipment installation/modification, and material system development. you will solve technical problems, design new equipment, improve existing processes, and supporting customer focused programs. our client offers an excellent base salary and comprehensive benefits package

primary job responsibilities:
design, improve, and troubleshoot custom built automation systems for machines which manufacture state of the art composite materials
develop, implement, and sustain policies and procedures for the technical work performed in the production facility
lead integration of new plc systems and automation equipment
identify, design, and implement process improvements in assigned areas of responsibility using lean and six sigma tools
execute technical assignments with ability to integrate systems adhering to strict schedule and cost considerations
provide technical support for 7x24 manufacturing facility in assigned areas of responsibility
perform root cause analysis for failure investigations and other data analysis tasks
design and develop new equipment for future production systems
apply quality standards to projects to ensure compliance with certification requirements in plant applications work with customers to develop and qualify process changes and provide technical services
qualifications:
bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science or closely related field
three (3) or more years of experience in manufacturing and process engineering environments
knowledge of industrial controls and electrical (ac and dc power)
knowledge of systems, including plc hardware and programming
cad software experience required
solid works preferred, including interacting with engineering and process drawings
demonstrated results in technical problem solving, product/process development, and supporting customer focused programs/services are required
experience with industrial tools and equipment preferred
experience in aerospace/high-temperature composites, industrial engineering systems, plc programming, and analysis tools are desired
familiarity with lean manufacturing principles desired
