our client, a wildlife conservation charity, is seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist to join the charity's centre for conservation science to model the ecological and biophysical consequences of treescape expansion in the uk.

the successful applicant will join a new inter-disciplinary project funded through ukri's treescapes programme. the project is led by the charity, alongside researchers from cardiff university and the university of the highlands and islands.

what the role is about:

woodland creation forms a core part of the uk government's net zero strategy. however, national policy rarely maps neatly onto actions at lower spatial scales (e.g. farms, landscapes), and this 'scale mismatch' creates a barrier to effective treescape expansion. this project will combine national- and landscape-scale ecological and biophysical modelling with participatory scenario planning to understand how future treescapes can achieve the best outcomes for people and nature.

this charity is seeking a conservation scientist with strong analytical skills to lead the modelling of alternative future land use scenarios at both the uk scale and in two case-study landscapes (one in england and one in wales). in parallel, cardiff university will recruit a social scientist to lead on participatory scenario planning.
