the organisation

for nearly three decades, the money advice trust has been helping people across the uk to tackle their debts and manage their money with confidence. we run national debtline, offering free, independent, and confidential advice on personal debt over the phone and online, and business debtline, the uk's only free dedicated debt advice service for small business owners. we also train debt advisers and creditor staff in supporting people in vulnerable circumstances, and work to improve the uk's money and debt environment through our influencing work.

we are currently seeking a debt advisor to join our team on a permanent basis. there are options to work a full-time shift pattern between our service hours of 9.00am - 8.00pm with a one in four saturday working rota (9.30am - 1.00pm), or a part time role working a minimum of 27.5 hours per week.

the role

as a debt advisor, you will provide advice, support, and money management help to people struggling with debt problems.

specifically, you will help callers to form budgets, prioritise their debts and identify possible solutions. handling a high volume of calls, you will advise individuals on debt management plans, debt relief orders or individual voluntary arrangements.

you will effectively manage your calls, some of which may be with distressed callers, and use empathy to build trust and therefore impart vital information. ensuring your advice is accurate and up-to-date, you will deliver it in compliance with financial conduct authority (fca) regulations (for which full training will be provided).

about you

to be considered as a debt advisor, you will need:

- experience of working in a busy, target-driven environment

- the resilience to deal empathetically and build trust with often highly distressed callers

- articulate communication skills

- a high level of it proficiency including word, excel and outlook
