Support worker for a 14 year old autistic young man - united kingdom, uckfield, east sussex

this position consists of 2 personal assistants for a 14-year-old autistic young man with associated learning difficulties. he is pre-verbal and utilises an acc devise for all communication. you will be required to assist him with but not limited to communication, self-help, functional skills, occupational therapy for self-regulation and personal care. i am looking for support workers/personal assistants to cover 15 hours on 4 evenings a week. you will each do 2 evenings a week of 7.5 hours each. days you work will be decided upon securing employment. there is a possibility of an increase of hours. flexibility is important. now and again you will be required to cover holiday for the other personal assistant

hours/times of work

you will be required to be flexible as you are supporting the mother/primary carer, whose work commitments may change termly. you will only be working weekdays. 7.5 hours a week for each support worker. days and times of work will be discussed at interview stage.

this is a permanent position. date of start start immediate you will require a dbs, which will be paid for by employer you will start as soon as your dbs is processed
tasks

to follow communication programme in supporting my son to communicate in all aspects using his acc devise. be able to enforce and be consistent with rules of behaviour, procedures and protocols to maintain consistent progress in his well-being. you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with tutors and family carers. as such, you should be able to work as part of a team. support workers must be able to take direction from myself (mother). to assist my son in acquiring and maintaining self-help and independence skills such as cooking for his own simple meals. to support my son in activities such as going swimming, shopping and going to coffee shops, library (during holidays) visits to increase independence and communication. you will also be required to engage with him in games and other activities. assist my son with personal care where necessary. he requires encouragement for independent communication and social interaction. he has no awareness of danger, and you are required to keep him safe whenever you are with him. full training in all of the above will be provided. be flexible to work at my son’s pace.


qualifications and requirements

nvq level or equivalent or above ability to work with an individual with autism. ability to be self-directed to independently be able to plan activities in the time you are with him. ability to take direction. ability to give full attention to what other people are saying. ability to work as part of a team. you will need a dbs check which will be paid for.
