Teacher for 14-year-old autistic young man - united kingdom, uckfield, east sussex

this position consists of a contractor position teaching a 14-year-old autistic young man with associated learning difficulties on a one-to-one basis. your student is pre-verbal and utilises an acc devise for all communication. the teaching programme requires you to follow a multi-disciplinary approach of, but not limited to academic, self-help and functional skills, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy.

tasks

to follow communication programme in supporting student to communicate in all aspects of his day using acc devise.

adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs and interests.

be able to enforce and be consistent with rules of behaviour, procedures and protocols to maintain consistent progress and well-being in the student.

you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with two other tutors. as such, you should be able to work as part of a team

you will be following programmes devised by educational consultant, occupational therapist and speech and language therapist.

you should be prepared and willing to receive training from the mother.

tutors must be able to take direction from the mother.

teach through direct teaching, activities subjects such as english, mathematics, science, music and pe.

to assist student in acquiring and maintaining self-help and independence skills such as cooking for his own simple meals.

to support student in activities such as going swimming, shopping and going to coffee shop, library visits to increase independence and communication.

be flexible to work at the student’s pace.

hours of work

this is a term time contract.

the position is for two-week days and six hours on each day.

the two days on which you work can be negotiated at interview stage
