Electrical/controls engineer - united states, richmond (indiana)

a global provider of sustainable packaging solutions for consumers worldwide is seeing an electrical/controls engineer for the hammond, in, location. the electrical and controls engineer is responsible for the reliability and performance of all plant industrial automation, control, and communication systems in support of plant goals for safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost control. these responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • troubleshooting and managing the maintenance and optimization of plant control systems, including plc’s, vfd’s, i/o, sensors, hmi’s, communication networks, dcs system, automation and control software, etc., through direct involvement and the deployment and direction of internal and external resources.
  • supports the troubleshooting and managing of the maintenance and optimization of the electrical distribution system performance, including transformers, switchgear, mcc’s, load centers, lighting, etc., through direct involvement and the deployment and direction of internal and external resources.
  • coordinates and collaborates with the manufacturing systems manager to ensure the plant’s alignment with the company’s best practices.
  • complies with all safety and environmental regulations (internal & external) and applicable to the company’s standards.
  • reports to the plant engineer to achieve overall success and attainment of plant goals and objectives.
  • primary responsibilities:

  • responds to and directs troubleshooting of machine problems resulting directly or indirectly from electrical or control system dynamics.
  • provides troubleshooting support for mechanical system malfunctions
  • recommends and implements improvements and optimizations for plant electrical and control systems.
  • recommends and implements technical skills development strategies for the plant electricians and instrumentation technicians.
  • directs the workload and assignments of the plant electricians, instrumentation technicians, and contracted electrical services as needed.
  • collaborates with the maintenance manager and maintenance planner to establish and execute pms for the plant’s electrical and control systems.
  • updates the electrical power distribution and control system drawings and documentation regularly and as needed and ensures copies are available in the control panels.
  • supports and participates in the planning cycle for weekly, monthly and annual maintenance activities including extended plant shutdowns.
  • supports annual capital project planning and implementation for the hammond plant.
  • all other duties as assigned.
  • requirements and minimum education level:

  • bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • proficiency with allen-bradley automation systems including factory talk, controllogix, rs logix
  • experience:

  • minimum 1-3 years’ experience within a manufacturing facility.
  • basic working knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
  • basic working knowledge of instrumentation and process control systems.
  • basic working knowledge of dcs, hmis, plcs, i/o, vfd’s, sensors, etc.
  • basic working knowledge on manufacturing it, industrial networks and applications
  • good knowledge of electrical safety
