the research communications officer is part of a team promoting the life-changing impact of bhf's work through the media and on the bhf's website. this vital role links bhf-funded researchers and the public. you'll use the media and bhf's own external communication channels to tell the story of how our research is saving and improving the lives of heart patients. working closely with bhf-funded researchers and journalists, you'll announce the award of new funding and promote research discoveries through the media. you'll proactively seek out research stories and bring the science to life in ways that are relevant to the public and patients. the role also plays an important part in the bhf's busy press office to ensure people with heart and circulatory diseases receive accurate information through the media. working arrangements this is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our london office. the use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. this may vary from time to time, so you must be prepared to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause. most of our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office each week, on average. excited by the role, but not sure you tick every box? you may need a little more help balancing your work and home life, so please feel free to explore the flexibility you may need with us at the application or interview stage. about you thriving in a fast-paced environment, you will be talented at translating medical research into great stories and bringing these to life using bhf researchers and case studies. with previous experience writing and developing online content, including news stories and blogs, you'll be able to write and issue press releases to national and regional journalists. you'll have knowledge of uk media and the changing media landscape. you'll also coordinate media interviews and write reactive statements to breaking news stories. with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, you'll build strong working relationships with key health and science journalists, as well as with bhf-funded researchers. this varied role would suit an enthusiastic media professional with press office experience. you will also need to demonstrate an ability to write fluently and persuasively for a range of audiences. with a natural flair for communicating complex science in a compelling and accurate way, you will be able to juggle tasks and work under pressure to deliver a first-class service. about us we research all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia, diabetes and many more. all connected, all under siege. because our research is the promise of future cures and treatments. we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, celebrate diversity, and make inclusion part of what we do every day. our equality, diversity and inclusion (edi) strategy, igniting change, along with our internal edi group, kaleidoscope, and a growing number of employee network groups (our affinity groups), help us create an environment where all our colleagues and volunteers can succeed. what can we offer you? we offer excellent benefits including 30 days annual leave, private medical insurance, dental health cover, pension, and flexible working. we commit to actively developing you and offer learning and development opportunities to support, inspire and help you unlock your full potential. to find out more about benefits available at the bhf please download our benefits document on our website. interview process please note interviews will be held over microsoft teams.
