Duties and responsibilitiestakes an evidence based approach to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.assists in planning of nursing care its implementation, evaluation and amendment as appropriate.demonstrates effective communication in the work place.assumes team leadership role in the absence of the charge nurse.assists in duty schedule planning and preparation.compiles labour and delivery outcome statistics.partakes in quality improvement programs.implements infection prevention and control guidelines in all clinical settings.acts as a preceptor for the new staff.participates actively in in-service education activities.participates in clinical audits as defined by the clinical director of nursing.checks and maintains good function of all medical equipment per shift.identifies risk factors on admission of patients or in 1 st 2 nd 3rd and 4 th stages of labour and reports to the doctor for the appropriate interventions.performs vaginal examination to all patients indicated except those less than 36 completed weeks, per vaginal bleeding patients and any other as defined by unit protocol.induces labour as ordered by doctor by insertion of prostaglandins subsequent to the baseline vaginal examination and insertion of the first dose by doctor.monitors 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th stages of labour independently and partly interdependent, with strict use of partogram.monitors labour with high technological equipment’s cardio toco grapher and application of fetal scalp electrodes, performs episiotomies to all indicated patients during the second stage of labour.maintains proficiency in the infiltration of the perium with local anesthetics and repairs perineal trauma, excluding 3 rd degree tears.administers drugs as privileged as a practitioner.examines and care for the newborn. initiates where necessary immediate resuscitationreceives a newborn in operating room and assists the pediatrician with care and resuscitation as indicated.identifies the newborn as per hospital policy.assists the doctor with assisted deliveries.assist with initiation of breastfeedingpromotes health education on hygiene and nutrition relevantly.provide health teachings to patient and their significant others.  skillsmust have good critical thinking skills.must be computer-literate.educationتمريض وقبالة
