Duties and responsibilities5.1      provide specific care immediately after birth in collaboration with the medical neonatology and apgar score.5.2      reports any changes in the evolution of the newborn.5.3      counter checking and verification of identification band upon receiving the newborn.5.4      vaccinates the newborn.5.5      ensures that the tasks set by the neonatologist/pediatrician and the head nurse/team leader is delivered accurately in terms of quality and efficiency.5.6      take samples for laboratory tests.5.7      provides education to family regarding newborn care.5.8      promotes continuous education to new parents about newborn care and breastfeeding.5.9       performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medication and other modalities in carrying out specific medical orders for administration of medications and performance of specific treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures. uses equipments in a safe and effective manner.5.10     establishes a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care, thus maintaining patients’ rights.5.11     takes responsibility for the direct delivery of professional and competent patient care by promoting quality care standards.5.12    acts on behalf of or at the direction of the head nurse/team leader on duty in setting and monitoring standards for patient care.5.13    participates in the monitoring of the planning, delivery of care and evaluation of the individualized patient care.5.14    informs the head nurse/team leader of any changes in circumstances which affect the standards of care.5.15    establishes and develops effective communications between nursing, support services, patients and relatives.5.16    maintains safely and well-being of patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.5.17    provides a safe therapeutic, personalized physical and psychosocial environment for patient care.5.18    assists in the formation of nursing care standards/policies and supports the head nurse and the unit staff in its implementation.5.19    uses equipment and supplies in a cost effective and responsible manner and participates in the procedure for ordering supplies within the agreed budget as delegated.5.20    ensures that infection control practices are adhered to in accordance with approved infection control policies.5.21    ensures that students and temporary staff allocated to emergency department have appropriate orientation, teaching and support in accordance with their curricular objectives and reports any matter of concern to the head nurse/team leader.5.22    participates in the care, custody and administration of medicines in accordance with the hospital policy especially in handling narcotics and controlled medicines.5.23    documents and reports all accidents/incidents to head nurse/team leader.5.24    ensures that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and legibly and understands the importance and relevance of their confidential nature.5.25    assists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposes.5.26    participates in staff orientation and on-going development programmes.5.27     is responsible for own professional development and growth and remains updated in           current professional practices.5.28     is responsible for keeping updated in infection control, fire and safety and disaster on a yearly basis.5.29     is responsible for keeping updated cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certification and updated on a 2 year basis.
