Duties and responsibilitiesmaintains a safe environment at all times for patients and stafftakes responsibility for all swab, needle and instrument counts and assist surgeon accordinglyexcellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniqueadheres to policy and procedure on "surgical site markingimplements policy on "time-out"in all proceduresknowledgeable with different kinds of anaesthesia and their effectsbe able to work as scrub, circulating, recovery room and dcu nursemaintains sterile technique during operative procedures. is able to prepare and check theatre for all cases including emergenciesassists in checking and maintaining off surgical equipment and instrumentsrecords information as required relating to the patient, the procedure and instruments for legal purposes, audit checks and safety purposes. informs head nurse/charge nurses of any changes in which effects the standard of careperforms procedures accurately, completely and safely according to hospital policies and      proceduresmaintains safety and well-being of patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and proceduresensures that infection control practices are adhered to in accordance with approved infection         control policydocuments and reports all accidents/incidents to head nurse/charge nurse and site managerensures that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and legibly and understands the importance and relevance of their confidential naturemaintains a safe and clean environment for the patient, including fire and safety, disaster management and infection controlassists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposesparticipates in mentoring and precepting new staff and studenttakes responsibility for own professional development and growth and remains updated in         current professional practicesmaintains confidentiality of patients’ illness and careparticipates in nursing committeesdemonstrates high standards of clinical knowledge and practicescontributes to continuous quality improvement by identifying nursing problems in the       operating roomassists with the resolution of problems on a shift to shift basis with appropriate documentation        and follow-up reports to head nurse  skillspossesses a compassionate nature and displays empathy towards patientsmaintains good health and must be prepared to work odd hoursdemonstrates tact, patients, understanding, and dependability and possesses a desire to help peopleportrays very good communication skills and has the ability to function as a part of a multi-national/ multi cultural team demonstrates honesty and discretioneducationnursing
