Duties and responsibilitiesdemonstrate a contemporary and in-depth understanding of clinical nutrition theory, practice, policies, procedures, equipment, and patient-centered care.complete required competencies and be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:assessment and evaluation:conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical histories, current health conditions, dietary habits, and nutritional needs.analyze laboratory results, medical records, and other relevant data to determine nutritional deficiencies, risks, and potential interactions.identify patients' goals and preferences to create tailored nutritional plans.nutritional planning:develop customized nutritional plans that align with patients' medical conditions, allergies, cultural considerations, and personal preferences.calculate calorie and nutrient requirements based on age, gender, activity level, and specific medical needs.recommend suitable meal plans, dietary modifications, and nutritional supplements as needed.patient education:educate patients about the importance of balanced nutrition, its impact on health, and how it can help manage or prevent various medical conditions.provide clear and understandable instructions on how to follow recommended dietary changes.offer guidance on portion control, mindful eating, and strategies to overcome challenges related to adherence.collaboration and communication:collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutritional interventions into comprehensive patient care plans.communicate regularly with the medical team to ensure that nutritional plans are aligned with the patient's overall treatment goals.provide progress updates and recommendations during patient rounds and team meetings.monitoring and adjustment:regularly monitor patients' progress and assess their response to nutritional interventions.make necessary adjustments to nutritional plans based on changes in patients' health status, preferences, and goals.address any concerns or challenges patients might face during their dietary changes.documentation and record-keeping:maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting procedure details, patient information, and any relevant observations.ensure that all documentation adheres to legal and ethical standards for patient privacy and confidentiality.stays abreast of the latest research, trends, and developments in clinical nutrition and related fields through ongoing professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and staying updated on relevant medical literature.participate in community activities as related to health education and patient education practice.participates in cqi&ps system control activities, staff development, environmental safety awareness and fire and safety practices, disaster, cpr and infection control.performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.skillsexcellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.commitment to learning and training in pursuance of a career in his chosen specialty.ability to assume greater responsibility in matters of patient care.ability to deal calmly, with tact and diplomacy to patient and staff alike.educationclinical nutrition
