the role of the category manager is to develop, plan and implement the procurement and logistics strategy for an assigned category or group of categories, with a focus on optimizing costs, quality, delivery and reliability.

your responsibilities

strategy: develop and execute long term, global strategies for the critical non-metallics commodities (resin & molded parts) with annual spend in excess of $50m spread across a global supply basecreate short- and long-term commodity strategies, follow the strategic sourcing process, lead / influence cross functional team members.use experience / expertise to solve problems, develop / execute objectives, and effect short-term and long-term business goalslead supplier strategy for all 3rd party projects and provide strategic as well as tactical level sourcing supportwork closely with commercial / product management team to stay abreast with changing demand.establish processes and expectations with both internal and external customers on ownership and management of this spendhelp team in identifying opportunities to create productivity projects and lead the sourcing portion on it to ensure completionbe responsible for execution expected in identifying the supplier with right cost, quality & delivery performance for these service value adds projectslead on-going 2nd source projects taking ownership of critical qualification timelinesmanage the standard tollgate processes on the commodity projects. run weekly project calls with cross functional team, closely managing teams progress to committed timelinecontinually assess project risks and provide timely updates to leadership, proactively communicating any risks / changes to scheduleidentify, plan & execute new dual source initiatives on sub commodities in this spenddrive cross functional effort, be persuasive, and ensure timely completion of the projects to avoid business risksdrive strategic relationships with the suppliers and utilize fact-based negotiation tactics to secure spend under contract to achieve the stated business goalslead your commodity s financials reporting to measure deflation, inflation, special payments and track the progress towards the annual team goal to ensure required contribution is met or exceededlead / aid the reporting of teams’ numbers with the sourcing initiatives team and ensure weekly closures on financesact as the focal point with the new product introduction, engineering, product management, materials and quality team and work towards achieving common business goalsidentify and establish strong constructive relationship with key power brokers such as engineering to be able to execute the sourcing projects successfullybe systematic and utilize existing project management tools or improve them as needed in order to track and execute various sourcing projectsset up tools to drive smoother processes for the commodityset up and conduct weekly, monthly rhythms with cross functional teams & suppliersdevelop various processes, queries to gain efficiencies in day-to-day operationsmanage commodity s budget on expenses and investments and monitor and drive 100% execution on identified projectsinterface with the business on issues of forecasting, planning, strategy alignmentlead the spend migration to low-cost countries and drive pole teams to achieve faster project executionpredict future needs for key initiatives such as asset lite, supply chain flexibility model. identify / drive proactive strategies for business with a clear focus on sourcing metrics that runs from cost savings, payment term improvements, supplier relationship management, dual source development, low-cost country spend migration, cross functional project management and service productivity



your background

bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years of experience and / or master’s degree with minimum 3 years of experience.should have technical knowledge, negotiation, and analytical skills.strong sourcing, supply chain, product management, engineering background is preferred.strong negotiations and supplier interaction skills; inclusive leadership and driver who take ownership on driving cross functional projects.demonstrated background of building collaborative relationships.proven people management skills with clear vision and can-do attitude.excellent project / initiative management skills.strong data analytics and presentation skills.fact based negotiation experience.strong quantitative and analytical skills and expertise required in excel powerpoint and access.ability to work with cross functional teams such as engineering, npi sourcing, quality, services, materials etc. to achieve timely project execution.ability to work with global supply base.six sigma training or equivalent quality certification is plus.strong project planning, project execution skills.high customer centricity, responsive and a go-getter.ability to influence others and lead small teams.lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact.ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.effective problem identification and solution skills.proven analytical and organizational ability.clear thinker with ability to lead team level projects with high sensitivity towards maintaining timeline.travel of up to 25% may be required.candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for abb in the us.
