the commercial category manager will direct the commercial structure and practices within our labels and inserts facilities. the role focuses on delivering a high level of commercial accuracy and awareness at site level, implementing margin improvement initiatives to increase opportunity for margin recovery, cost reduction and profit improvement. the role will lead/oversee bid and new business introductions and coordinate commercially sensitive customer bids or projects.  part of this will include establishing and managing a consistent structure for customer information recording and training. promote the product capabilities leading to increased focus on added value sales growth and product development. this ideal candidate will live close to one of our sites in long island, ny; lansing, mi; raleigh and greensboro, nc.

how you will impact westrock:

propose and develop plans for margin improvement initiatives by product typedefine commercial recover targets on price and margin in conjunction with siteslead implementation of commercial audits and regular reviews for maximum benefitdefine charging approach per site/customer – implementing a regular review process for changing circumstancesensure a common and consistent approach is adopted in all sites for the categorydevelop consistent pricing approach for existing customers and bidsprovide input into a strategic direction for standardization and technical development that satisfies both our customer and operational requirementsestablish and maintain up-to-date, comprehensive price listsmanage the bid process liaising with sales and estimating department to generate most competitive cost solution through consultation with site management, and svp if necessaryparticipates in the development of a cost model by componentinterface with data analyst to ensure programs are effectivedevelops commercial training program for appropriate skills training within the component structureparticipates and controls technical developments across the component sites to maximize added value opportunitiesensures cost and price consistency is aligned to any technical developmenttrains customer service where appropriate on interpretation and application of price listsinterfaces with commercial analyst and bid coordinators to ensure bids are effectiveinterfaces directly with estimating so that estimates are accurate and effective and represent the cost structures of the plants and materialbuild relationships and proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers) to generate buy-in and establish alignment on pricing strategiespartner with legal teams, contract teams, and customers to finalize contracts and ensure that the pricing and negotiated terms are managed to and observed

what you need to succeed:

understanding of label and insert manufacturing, knowledge of pressure sensitive labels required3+ years (large site) to 5+ years (small site) of relevant commercial/sales management experiencebachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, business, or financestrong analytical skills, enterprise applications to perform cost analysisproficient in microsoft office, including advanced excel; business intelligence tools must have commercial/financial awareness of margin recovery driversmust have excellent knowledge of the business/product range and capabilities/manufacturing process/information systemsmust demonstrate knowledge of budget management and key cost driverssix sigma certification is a plusproject management experience is preferred
