this environmental engineer (“environmental manager”) works toward environmental compliance at a well-run chemical processing facility. there will be activities in air, waste, wastewater, dot transportation, and responsible cares.

reporting to the site sheq manager (safety, health, environmental, and quality) at the chicago plant, you will oversee site environmental compliance. this is a program management role that interacts collaboratively with site management and production, quality, and maintenance employees. work activities include:
● collaborating with production employees to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and advising plant personnel in all areas of environmental compliance
● conducting environmental training per dot/iata, rcra, spcc, hazwoper, etc.
● completing environmental permits and acting as the liaison with regulatory agencies
● maintaining the responsible cares management systems (rc14001)
● participating in environmental incident investigations, audits (internal and external), management-of-change events and reviews.
● assisting the plant leadership team to ensure timely reporting of incidents, inspections/audits, agency interaction and sustainability performance indicators in the management information system
● monitoring contractor work for various environmental projects.
applicant background request:
we are searching for a proactive organized environmental engineer or environmental scientist with at least 5 years of experience handling environmental compliance at an industrial site. the successful applicant will be a self-starter and problem solver.
● bs environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or related technical degree
● 5+ years of environmental compliance experience at an industrial facility, best if a chemical processing plant with title v air permits
● demonstrated knowledge of illinois and usepa laws and regulations (air, wastewater, waste, dot, and any other applicable regulations)
● preferred skills and experiences (not required) include:
◦ knowledge of rc14001, iso14001, iso9001 and/or other iso-based management systems
◦ iepa class k wastewater license preferred
◦ process simulation in chemcad
● must be authorized to work in the usa indefinitely without sponsorship (sorry no f1, h1b, or other temporary work authorization)
