location: warwick, rhode island or commutable to ri 3 days/week.  this position will travel up to 25% of the time, primarily throughout the state of rhode island.  

primary responsibilities:

state/community focus

provides strategic leadership and contributes to the successful advancement of culture, health equity and social responsibility principles leads the health plan in addressing the priorities of ri eohhs and state leadership. consult and align with state partners and constituents serving as unitedhealthcare community plan ri’s health plan liaison to our community. execute initiatives to support the state’s equity goals which include: improving access to basic health & safety resources providing access to culturally relevant services and programs ensuring communities of color are reached through culturally competent communications ensuring equitable covid-19 testing, contact tracing, data, and vaccination strategies ensuring the representation of communities and leaders of color in our member and community advisory committee highlighting equity as a necessary component of the mco’s covid-19 response builds and deploys strategies and initiatives that identify structural racism and reduce bias experienced by rhode island’s communities of color and high-density communities identifies health disparities experienced by rhode island medicaid and dually-eligible (medicaid & medicare) populations and develop actionable strategies and lead execution of implementation plans to address the specific needs of communities of color, high density areas, and low-income neighborhoods promote and assists in strategy development and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives build and cultivate active relationships and stay abreast of emerging approaches with advocacy and community-based coalitions  assists in the development of strategies and programs to engage disadvantaged populations in the community to promote health equity develop and support the community advisory board in collaboration with ceo & cmo to facilitate community leaders input into business practices, inform policy and organizational practice change and drive accountability for advancement of health equity, inclusive culture, and a diverse workforce. the board will be reflective of the health plan membership point of contact for state-wide sdoh referral system (uniteus)

health plan/enterprise focus

support the local culture, inclusion, diversity & equity council through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating training & experiential learning with the goal of building health plan team members’ skill competency and equip the team to make a positive impact on culture & health equity assists in the development of strategies and programs to assure diversity and inclusion in our staffing model and hiring  active member of health plan leadership team collaborate with health plan and enterprise leaders to meet strategic and business goals demonstrate organizational agility and understanding of how the business operates and identify opportunities to create a more inclusive and diverse culture

required qualifications:

bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience in community engagement and/or coalition building  experience leading and developing diversity, inclusion, and equity strategies experience addressing health disparity and/or health equity concerns experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies, and tools  proficiency with ms office suite full covid-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. unitedhealth group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

preferred qualifications:

master’s in business/healthcare administration, public health, or related field   experience working with medicaid and/or medicare programs  experience working in a matrix environment  experience working with and influencing all levels of employees; inspiring others to engage, participate and act excellent communication skills - verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation along with written message development proven track record of effectively managing conflict, resolving issues, mitigating risks, and influencing leaders
