job overview

pst is currently seeking a sr. analytical lab chemist. this position will be based out of the pst facility located in orangeburg, ny. this position reports into operations and will have direct responsibility in our onsite analytical lab supporting manufacturing operations performing testing methods, analysis, and reporting.

primary responsibilities

performs qualitative and quantitative analytical testing of inorganic compounds and alloys to determine the chemical and physical properties including impurity analysis and composition, utilizing icp, xrf, leco, gdms metallographic techniques. performs metallography analysis in accordance with prescribed methods and standard operating procedures. design and develop test methods and procedures for the new inorganic material and alloys product samples. implement safety standards and ensure all analytical lab personnel are trained to current safety protocols and business conduct guidelines. checks various analytical test results for accuracy and upload results in oracle database, including communication with the internal operations teams. follow internal ocaps for ooc and oos non-conformances. prepare and/or assist with preparation of standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests. update and improve relevant documentations such as standard operating procedure, work instructions, laboratory analysis reports and various msa reports. ensure all pms are scheduled and done in a timely manner. escalate tool issues and other issues to appropriate personnel immediately for their resolutions. participates in continuous improvement initiatives; ooc and oos non-conformance investigations, trend reviews and internal/customer iso audits. under the guidance of the ops manager, manage the production scheduling in the site laboratory and external qualified laboratories.

required qualifications

bachelor of science in chemistry or other natural science discipline 3- 5 years’ hands-on experience conducting analysis working in a lab environment would consider further hands-on experience working in a lab environment in lieu of bachelor degree. computer proficiency in microsoft applications familiarity with spc, msa and calibration. knowledge of chemistry including the safe use and disposal of chemicals. analytical and problem-solving skills using chemistry, science and mathematics. excellent verbal and written communication skills. must be thorough and pay attention to detail. ability to work well with others in collaborative environment must have flexible schedule to support manufacturing operations

preferred qualifications

master’s degree 5 or more years’ experience in conducting working in a lab environment
