the electronic deposition materials (edm) division of pst is a global leader in the development, manufacturing, and supply of high-performance physical vapor deposition (pvd) sputtering targets to the semiconductor industry. with facilities in the usa, france, and korea, the edm business is a fast-paced, dynamic, and global organization.

pst is seeking candidates with appropriate qualifications and, or experience to join the edm r&d team based out of orangeburg, ny. the successful candidate will have a metallurgical background and be enthusiastic about taking a hands-on approach to supporting r&d projects and a desire to spend time operating equipment in the r&d lab as well as on the production floor. recent graduates in metallurgy or materials science who have a desire to apply their learnings to support product development in a global business supplying sophisticated products as consumables for the high-technology semi-conductor industry should apply. candidates who are qualified in any related science and engineering discipline and who can demonstrate the capacity and enthusiasm required to fulfill the role are also encouraged to apply.

entering the edm r&d department as a development associate offers ample opportunity for growth and continued learning, not only in the field of metallurgy & materials science but exposure and insight into the workings of semi-conductor fabrication processes.

the position will encompass contributing to r&d projects associated with metal manufacturing processes including, but not limited to, melting and casting, alloying, powder processing, metal working (e.g. forging, rolling), machining and bonding of a variety of different metals and other materials. candidates should demonstrate initiative, creativity, and a desire to work within a multi-disciplinary team. you must be able to present your work and communicate in a clear and concise manner.

primary responsibilities

work closely with operations staff on the production floor, supervising, and monitoring early trials. facilitate technology transfer for new materials, equipment, and work processes. operate and maintain equipment (optical microscopes, sem, x-ray, furnaces etc.) in r&d labs. plan and perform hands on experimentation and establish metrology. identify and communicate technical challenges. demonstrate a results-orientated disposition in a team environment responsible for the development and implementation of practical solutions. communicate results, make recommendations through oral presentations and formal reports, document intellectual property, seek patent protection where and when appropriate.

qualifications

required qualifications

bachelor’s in an engineering or physical science discipline. ability to be self-sufficient in planning and execution of complex development work. effective verbal and written communication skills a desire to work as part of a team, solve problems and contribute to the future growth and profitability of the business.

preferred qualifications

master’s in metallurgy or materials science experience and knowledge of specialty metal manufacturing processes such as vacuum melting, metal powder processing, metal working, precision machining etc.
