job overview

pst is currently seeking an analytical lab chemist. this position will be based out of the pst facility located in orangeburg, ny. this position reports into operations and will have direct responsibility for our onsite analytical lab supporting manufacturing operations performing testing methods, analysis, and reporting.

primary responsibilities

perform qualitative and quantitative analytical testing of metals and alloys to determine the chemical and physical properties including impurity analysis and composition by utilizing icp, xrf, leco, and gdms analytical instrumentation. metallography sample preparation and reading grain size using common metallurgical and analytical tools. maintain workbooks, lab samples and equipment on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as per sop’s and test procedures. work in safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant manner in accordance with company policies and procedures check various analytical test results for accuracy and upload results in oracle database, including communication with the internal operations teams. follow internal ocaps for ooc and oos non-conformances. prepare analytical standards and samples through wet chemistry methods. follow relevant documentation such as standard operating procedure, work instructions, laboratory analysis reports and various msa reports. ensure all pms are scheduled and done in a timely manner. escalate tool issues and other issues to appropriate personnel immediately for their resolutions. participate in continuous improvement initiatives; ooc and oos non-conformance investigations, trend reviews and internal/customer iso audits. work with operations on prioritizing internal and external lab analysis based on production schedule.

required qualifications

2 years’ hands-on experience conducting analysis working in a lab environment computer proficiency in microsoft applications knowledge of chemistry including the safe use and disposal of chemicals. analytical and problem-solving skills using chemistry, science and mathematics. excellent verbal and written communication skills. must be thorough and pay attention to detail. ability to work well with others in collaborative environment must have flexible schedule to support manufacturing operations highly motivated, energetic, and willing to drive continuous improvement

preferred qualifications

bachelor of science in chemistry or other natural science discipline preferred 3-5 years’ experience in conducting work in a lab environment familiarity with spc, msa and calibration hands on experience using icp, aa, leco, and/or xrf for the analysis of high purity materials to determine the impurity and composition analysis familiarity with mass spectrometry sample preparation methods a plus
